Medan - FKM USU: Chair and Professor Department of Public Health Tzu Chi University, Taiwan, Prof. Lih-Ming Yiin gave a public lecture on the topic of “Assessment of Exposure to Environmental Contaminants” on Thursday (February 16, 2023) at the Auditorium of Faculty of Public Health Universitas Sumatera Utara. The public lecture, which was opened by the dean of the Faculty of Public Health Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Dra. Ida Yustina, M.Si, was attended by lecturers and students of the undergraduate program in division Environmental Health and Occupational Safety Health, as well as master and doctoral programs in Public Health Science at the Faculty of Public Health Universitas Sumatera Utara. Prof. Lih-Ming Ying in his lecture presented his research results on assessing the exposure of environmental contaminants to human health. According to him, continuous contamination over a long period of time can cause disruption of the hormonal system in the body and trigger diseases that can attack the respiratory system, immune system and even an increased risk of cancer. Assessment of human exposure to environmental contaminants can use biomarkers such as urine and blood to obtain more precise results. The results of this study can be used by epidemiologists to measure how much impact exposure has on the risks that will be caused. The public lecture was moderated by the lecturer of Faculty of Public Health Universitas Sumatera Utara, Risanti Febrine Ropita Situmorang, S.K.M., M.Sc. who is also an alumnus in Public Health Tzu Chi University, Taiwan.
